Thomas Müller embarked on another big adventure in the autumn of his career. The 36-year-old has been playing for the Vancouver Whitecaps in the MLS since the summer and immediately showed that he can still make a difference away from FC Bayern. Müller reached the final with his new club straight away, but was beaten 3-1 by Inter Miami and Lionel Messi.
Away from the pitch, however, the former Bayern star is experiencing a completely different everyday life in Canada. In an interview with 11freunde magazine, Müller spoke openly about how he is settling into life in Vancouver – and also admitted to some unusual weaknesses. „To be honest, I’m finding that I’m despairing about the same things as at home,“ explained the 2014 world champion.
Müller actually had big plans, especially when it came to language. „For example, I had firmly resolved to actively hone my English skills with an app. I wanted to make an effort to get better quickly,“ he said. However, the reality was different. „In the end, I found that the days were rushing by and I even had enough time, but I was just too lazy to use the app.“
However, Müller is not completely silenced even without a perfect command of English. On the contrary: „I would put it this way: I don’t hold back with stupid comments in English either – and garnished with grammatical blunders, they are certainly a bit stranger than in my home country,“ he reported with his usual humour. His teammates apparently reacted calmly to this. They were „polite enough to accept it so far and then laugh at the end anyway“.
