Martín Palermo will not continue as Fortaleza head coach next season after the club were relegated to Brazil’s second tier. According to LaNumer12.com.ar, his name is again being linked with Boca and he could also be an option in Brazil.
Fresh from winning the 2024 Clausura with Olimpia, the former Boca striker took charge in Ceará with survival the brief. After three wins and four defeats he went nine matches unbeaten, then beat Corinthians in the penultimate round to climb out of the drop zone after 27 rounds.
A 4-2 loss to Botafogo on the final day, combined with rivals’ results, sent Fortaleza down. Despite executive Marcelo Paz wanting him to stay, the club decided after recent meetings to end his contract at season’s end.
Palermo’s record was 17 matches, with eight wins, four draws and five defeats for 28 points. Fortaleza have already appointed Thiago Carpini as his successor.
At Boca, Claudio Úbeda’s position remains unresolved, with the hierarchy still to meet and no decision yet. Even so, a return for Palermo is viewed as unlikely, and he could instead take charge of Clube do Remo, newly promoted after collecting 62 points from 38 matches, with 16 wins, 14 draws and eight defeats.
