Having arrived at FC Barcelona only a few weeks ago, as an emergency replacement for the injured Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Wojciech Szczesny is now counting down the days to his debut in the Blaugrana shirt.

The Polish goalkeeper came out of retirement to sign for Barça and needed some time to get back his sharpness and fitness levels.

And, the 34-year-old has taken advantage of the international break to accelerate his preparation, and this week he has trained normally with the rest of his teammates.

As reported earlier, Szczesny is now ready to start for Barcelona, with the ex-Arsenal man himself confirming it during an interview with TV3.

“Yes, I’ve prepared these two weeks to be ready. Whether I play or not is the coach’s decision, which I must respect. But I train to play the match, and mentally, I’m already prepared,” he said.

With Szczesny ready, manager Hansi Flick will now have to decide between him and Inak Pena.

Despite having arrived just a few days ago, the former Juventus player’s adaptation to Barça is going well, and in a short time, he is already enjoying the training sessions and relationships with his new teammates.

“These are being very nice days. Indeed, the first days were tough from a physical point of view, especially for goalkeepers who work alone, and it’s not very fun,” shared Szczesny.

“But this week, when I joined the group, it has been very fun and stimulating because you play matches and joke around with your teammates.”

Barcelona face a very demanding run of fixtures ahead of them. After this Sunday’s match against Sevilla, they take on Bayern Munich in the Champions League and Real Madrid in La Liga.

Looking at the challenges ahead for the team, Szczesny said: “In the end, all matches are a test because championships aren’t won or lost in a single game. We’re facing two ‘top’ teams in Europe, but Barça is also a top team at the continental level.

“It will be a good challenge, but the most important thing is the victories because they favor good relationships within the squad and give you an advantage in the standings, and that’s why these will be important matches.”
