Barcelona take on Deportivo Alaves tomorrow afternoon on match day 9 of La Liga and the team will thus travel to Vitoria-Gasteiz for the final game before the international break.

Hansi Flick is yet to release the squad list for the game against Luis Garcia Plaza’s side but SPORT reveal that there will be a surprising new name called up for tomorrow’s game – Wojciech Szczesny.

Time to acclimatise

As revealed by the outlet, the Polish goalkeeper will enter Barcelona’s squad list against Alaves and will thus travel with the team to Vitoria later today.

Despite recently coming out of retirement to replace Marc-Andre Ter Stegen in Catalonia, Hansi Flick sees the goalkeeper to have arrived in good shape and thus will take the new signing with him to facilitate his acclimatisation.

Szczesny will likely not see any action against Alaves for Inaki Pena has been solid in goal for the team so far and is more match-fit. Yet, it will be a big moment for the veteran as he is already in the manager’s plans.

Barcelona only registered Szczesny as their new goalkeeper in La Liga earlier today utilising the margin created by Ter Stegen’s injury under Article 77 of the regulations. Now, they have wasted no time in including the player in their plans.

The 34-year-old first trained with Barcelona on Friday and is still far from ready to start a game. Barcelona, however, will hope he is ready in time for the big games after the international break should the need to replace Pena arrive.
