Sael Kumbedi’s (20) move from Olympique Lyonnais to Wolfsburg has been made permanent, according to a report from Foot Mercato.
Kumbedi left formative club Lyon to join the Bundesliga side on a loan deal at the start of the season. Wolfsburg paid an initial €1m loan fee for the defender, whilst the German side also included the option to purchase the player for €6m.
That option has now been triggered after a clause was met, which stipulated that the move would become permanent once Kumbedi had started five league games and played at least 45 minutes in those games. He started against Eintracht Frankfurt, which means that the clause is met. In six matches in the Bundesliga, the defender already has three assists.
Lyon will earn €7m from the deal, overall. It is good news for the club, which, despite regaining their place in Ligue 1 upon appeal, remain in financial difficulty.
