As widely expected, VfL Wolfsburg have officially confirmed Paul Simonis as their new head coach.
The 40-year-old Dutchman arrives from Go Ahead Eagles, signing a contract that runs until 2027.
He takes over from Ralph Hasenhüttl at the Volkswagen Arena.
“It was an intensive selection process, but in the end, Paul Simonis was the clear choice. He fits our profile perfectly. Paul is meticulous in every aspect of his work and shares our vision and approach to how we want to perform on the pitch moving forward,” said Wolfsburg’s managing director for sport, Peter Christiansen.
“We aim to rejuvenate VfL Wolfsburg with fresh ideas and steadily push the club’s development - from the first team down to the youth ranks. Paul brings tremendous energy and passion to the role, and we look forward to embarking on this journey with him.”
Simonis himself is eager to embrace the challenge ahead in Germany.
“I’m very excited to take on this new challenge and to work closely with the team, staff, and everyone involved at the club. My discussions with Peter Christiansen, Sebastian Schindzielorz, and Sebastian Rudolph were very thorough and insightful, giving me full confidence that this is the right move. I look forward to competing at the highest level in one of Europe’s most competitive and exciting leagues.”
