Two rivals went head to head on Saturday in the DFB Pokal Frauen semi-finals, with the reigning champions coming out on top 5-0.
Scorers: Jónsdóttir 19′, 47′, Grohs 44′ (OG), Brand 56′, Janssen 60′ (P)
It was one-way traffic at Bayern Munich’s grounds as rivals Wolfsburg continued their quest for the cup in style.
The visitors dominated the pitch thanks to an in-form Sveindis Jónsdóttir. Her first goal was an expertly drilled half-volley from the top of the box.
However, the hosts were still in the game with only one goal in the first half until a late own goal doubled Wolfburg’s lead.
A long throw from Jónsdóttir found striker Ewa Pajor and her header went off goalkeeper Maria Luisa Grohs for 2-0.
Coming out after the break, Bayern still struggled to find their scoring touch as Georgia Stanway, Lina Magull, Lea Schüller and others fell flat.
Jónsdóttir turned things 3-0 minutes after the restart before a goal from Jule Brand and a penalty from Dominique Janssen after a Bayern handball led to a thumping win.
It means Wolfsburg can now potentially win their ninth DFB Pokal in a row which would break the competition record for most wins (level with Frankfurt on nine).
Meanwhile, Bayern’s wait for another title continues having won only once in 2011-12.
