Kicker reports that negotiations between Norwich City and Wolfsburg over the transfer of American striker Josh Sargent are still ongoing. A report appearing in a local Wolfsburg newspaper late last week claimed that the Norfolk outfit and the Bundesliga club had already agreed to a €16m transfer. Kicker speaks of further talks involving a larger €20m sum.
The general status of negotiations at this juncture remains unclear, but Kicker also specifically notes that the “Missouri Marvel” has been offered a Wolfsburg contract valid until 2029. The former Werder Bremen professional may very well be keen to move back to a country in which he enjoyed success, sign a lucrative contract, and enhance his USMNT prospects.
Wolfsburg find themselves in need of another striker due to the fact that Danish international Jonas Wind wishes to depart. Wind enters the final year of his contract. After scoring in the pre-season Volkswagen Cup yesterday, the 26-year-old remained non-committal about his future with the Lower Saxon Autostädter.
The German Wolves do retain the services of Algerian international Mohamed Amoura. Portuguese attacker Tiago Tomas can also play center forward. Additionally, 20-year-old returning loanee Dzenan Pejcinovic will get a look this year. Pecjcinovic scored yesterday as well.
“At the moment, I still have a year left on my contract here,” Wind – as quoted by Kicker – noted yesterday “We’ll have to see what happens.”
“I’m happy with Jonas,” newly appointed VWer head coach Paul Simonis – also quoted by Kicker – added. “We’ll see what happens. I hope he stays.
“With Dzenan, we have another type of striker,” Simonis continued. “He’s even more mobile. Jonas might be better for one game, Dzenan for another.”
