Wolfsburg have completed the signing of Fabian Reese from Hertha BSC on a contract running to 2030. The club announced the move on Tuesday afternoon, with the fee reported at around €8 to €9 million.
The 28-year-old attacker will wear number 11. He becomes Wolfsburg’s third addition of the summer window.
Reese was a fans’ favourite at Hertha and one of the 2. Bundesliga’s standout performers last season. He delivered 23 goal contributions, 10 goals and 13 assists, but it was not enough to push the Berlin side into the promotion race.
Wolfsburg sporting director Primin Schwegler described Reese as among the division’s strongest players in recent years and highlighted his attacking quality, commitment, leadership and mentality.
Reese said the decision to leave Hertha was difficult but a conscious one that made him happy. He felt Wolfsburg’s determined pursuit, the highly professional environment and the values of the club, Volkswagen and those around it made this the right step.
Following relegation from the Bundesliga, Wolfsburg have moved quickly this summer and signalled a clear ambition to secure an immediate return to the top flight.
