Wolverhampton Council leader Stephen Simkins has pushed back at Jeff Shi’s comments, insisting the authority is ready to press on with improvements at Molineux.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the Wolves chairman said the club wanted and needed more council support to regenerate the Steve Bull Stand and that he had not yet seen the authority’s plans.

Simkins said he was disappointed by those remarks and maintained the delay has come from the club’s side rather than the council’s.

He pointed to the council’s long record of backing Wolves, citing an intervention in 1986 that he said saved the club from collapse.

Simkins added that in recent years the authority has worked with colleagues at the club on joint projects aimed at transforming the area around the stadium.
