Wolves 1877 Trust has delivered a stark post-relegation message, saying the future is ‘not bright or clear’ and urging leaders to learn from mistakes. The trust said in a statement that the club must listen to supporters and change course.

Relegation had long loomed after a season spent in the bottom three. Defeat to Leeds on Saturday, coupled with West Ham’s draw at Crystal Palace, sealed the drop. Chairman Nathan Shi responded that the club was ready to react in pursuit of an immediate return.

It cautioned that only one in four relegated sides go straight back up, and many never do. It argued promotion would require the club to be run differently, with repeated errors and ignoring fans brought to an end.

It said Wolves are back where they started under Fosun, yet the stadium has suffered 10 years of dilapidation, relations with fans are at rock bottom and the council has felt marginalised. For some, trust in Fosun has collapsed, while others still favour giving them a second chance.

Avoiding a double relegation was described as essential, with a call to consult those involved in the 2011/12 and 2012/13 drops. It urged against hiring senior football figures without English experience and against losing players with domestic know-how.

Off the pitch, fuller crowds are needed at Molineux, with pricing blamed for flat atmospheres and reduced demand. Earlier this season, Shi said ticket prices would fall, and the trust wants that pledge honoured.

Fan engagement has begun to improve since former chairman Jeff Shi’s departure, with a forum due soon, though more is needed. The trust praised Wolves Women, who could secure promotion to Women’s Super League 2 this weekend, and said success would lift supporters as it works on their behalf.
