Wolves chairman Nathan Shi said sacking Rob Edwards was an extremely difficult decision after the head coach was dismissed on Thursday despite preparing for pre-season. He said it was in the club’s best interests and aimed at giving Wolves the best possible chance of promotion.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, the club are preparing to appoint Cesar Peixoto as Edwards’ replacement.
Shi praised Edwards and his staff for their work during a challenging spell in the club’s recent history. He highlighted the coach’s professionalism, integrity and commitment since returning to Wolves.
He said a thorough post-season review assessed every aspect of the football operation. That process considered multiple factors and what is required for progress over the coming years.
The chairman stressed the decision was not a reflection on character or dedication, but about what offers the strongest sporting platform for Wolves to move forward.
He added the club had seen positives and areas of progress, but concluded a different football direction better matches the style, identity and competitiveness they want to establish.
Shi said it might have been easier to stick with the familiar, yet leadership demands difficult calls believed to be right for the future. He set out an ambition for sustainable success built on clear vision, alignment and the courage to act for the club.
