Wolves have completed the signing of experienced free agent defender Kieran Trippier. The move begins their rebuild as they target promotion at the first attempt.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 54-cap England international has agreed a two-year deal with an option of a further year. He arrives after a successful four-year spell at Newcastle, leaving at the end of his contract.

Chairman Nathan Shi praised Trippier's quality and leadership, and said his Premier League, Champions League and international experience will be invaluable. He added that the signing reflects Wolves' ambition for the Championship challenge, while highlighting the defender's professionalism, character and high standards.

Technical director Matt Jackson said Trippier was the number one target and that bringing him in early, to join on the first day of pre-season, was vitally important. He credited a joint effort with Rob Edwards and Nathan Shi, and said Trippier has bought into the project.

Wolves are moving quickly to assemble the squad, having tied Andre to a new contract alongside Trippier's arrival. They are also closing in on re-signing Raul Jimenez, and want players in place early as they back Edwards to lead a return to the top flight.
