Wolves have confirmed the appointment of former Middlesbrough boss Rob Edwards as Vitor Pereira’s successor.

Wolves’ Under-21s manager James Collins took the helm as interim boss, losing to Chelsea in his only match in charge.

Gary O’Neil, sacked by Wolves in December 2024, had been in the running to replace Pereira, but withdrew from negotiations, and the Midlands club turned their attention to Middlesbrough’s Edwards.

He joined Boro in the summer as Michael Carrick’s successor, signing a three-year deal. Boro reluctantly granted permission for Edwards to enter talks with Wolves, and he was stood down from his managerial duties ahead of the club’s Championship meeting with Birmingham City.

Edwards returns to Wolves having played there between 2004 and 2008, and worked as the club’s interim manager after the sacking of Walter Zenga in 2016.

He failed to win either of his two matches in charge - drawing with Blackburn Rovers before losing to Derby.

Edwards will return to the Molineux dugout for the first time when Crystal Palace visit after the international break.

He won seven of his 15 matches in charge of Middlesbrough, who he leaves sitting second in the Championship.
