Wolverhampton Wanderers target David Carmo could be an ideal fit for the club should they purchase him from Braga this summer, according to Midlands journalist Josh Holland.

Bruno Lage’s side have been linked with a move for the Portuguese centre-back this window as the Wolves boss looks to strengthen his options.

What’s the latest on Carmo?

Jacque Talbot has recently stated that the west Midlands side could make a move for the Braga defender, who has a £34m release clause in his contract.

Both Manchester United and Liverpool are also reportedly interested in the centre-back, whilst Wolfsburg have already had an official proposal turned down according to Fabrizio Romano, who goes on to suggest that there are many clubs interested in the 22-year-old.

Wolves will be looking for another option at centre-back this summer, after Romain Saïss departed Molineux at the end of his contract, signing for Besiktas this summer.

BBC Radio WM journalist Daz Hale has given an update on Wolves’ potential business this summer stating:

“Brief update on #Wolves; I’m told the plan is still to bring in “at least 3-4 new players”, with the priority being the spine: CB, CM & CF.  They expect the market to accelerate during July. Couldn’t syphon any info on Neves, Adama [Traore] or MGW [Morgan Gibbs-White].  Not much, but it’s all I have”

And Holland believes that Carmo would be the ideal centre-back signing at Molineux this summer.

What has Holland said about Carmo?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Wolves very rarely put the ball up top.

“I think that was mainly to avoid Jiménez going up for headers, especially at the start of the season, it was a lot of keeping the ball on the floor, keeping bringing it out of defence, and I can’t imagine they will change their style of play.

“So, they could be getting a defender who’s good on the ball whilst defending balls over the top, like how van Dijk does with his very good body positioning.

“That’s quite important for Wolves to get sorted.”

Will Wolves sign Carmo?

It seems this season a lot of Wolves’ transfer business revolves around the potential departure of Rúben Neves, who has suitors including Manchester United, though his exit doesn’t seem as certain as it did at the end of the season.

You would suggest that Wolves could be interested in bringing Carmo to the club this summer, with the centre-back making 20 appearances for Braga last season in all competitions according to Transfermarkt, until an ankle injury in February ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

An average SofaScore rating of 6.93 for his domestic league form for Braga last season suggests that the 22-year-old had been consistently solid for the Europa League quarter-finalists last season.

Carmo would be an ideal signing for Wolves, as he would likely slot perfectly into Lage’s back three system, and freshen up a team in need of a change.
