Wolves closed their season with a 1-1 draw at fellow relegated Burnley, wrapping up a campaign short on away joy. According to ExpressAndStar.com, Joao Gomes was left out amid an expected summer move, with Atletico Madrid a likely destination and talks ongoing.
Wolves started sharply. Ladislav Krejci’s header struck Florentino on the arm, the referee pointed to the spot and Adam Armstrong converted. The striker, who Wolves hope will be scoring regularly in the Championship next season, netted only his second goal since January.
Academy midfielder Jerome Abbey came on in the 75th minute and, at 16 years, eight months and eight days, became Wolves’ youngest Premier League player. Fellow academy defender Ethan Sutherland also featured.
The draw confirmed a winless away league campaign. Wolves are one of only two clubs across Europe’s top five leagues to fail to win away this season, alongside Pisa in Serie A. They are the seventh Premier League side to go a full season without an away victory, the first since Hull City in 2009/10.
Wolves stayed bottom, a position they have occupied since late August, and they could have climbed with a win. This was only the second final-day Premier League fixture between two already relegated teams. Jean-Ricner Bellegarde was also absent from the squad.
