Wolves have seen off rival interest to land former England full-back Kieran Trippier, who has verbally agreed a two-year deal with an option of a third, according to ExpressAndStar.com.
Rob Edwards is understood to have played a key role in talks, and the move is set to be completed when the La Liga winner returns from his holiday. The 35-year-old, capped 54 times, would become the club’s first summer addition.
The development follows last week’s news that Brazilian international Andre has committed to the club for next season. Wolves are also linked with a move for former striker Raul Jimenez.
Supporters have called it smart business to open the window, saying Trippier brings the leadership and experience the squad need. Some believe he could be made captain.
Others praised owners Fosun after criticism over decisions that contributed to relegation, viewing this as a potential show of intent and a reason to look forward to the new campaign.
Fans also noted that, in the Championship, the club would have a Brazilian international and an England international who scored in a World Cup semi-final. Several described the prospective deal as the best signing in years, while urging Edwards and chairman Nathan Shi to keep pushing in the market.
