Wolves supporters turned on VAR after Dan Ballard was sent off following a review into a possible hair pull on Tolu Arokodare, with Sunderland 1-0 ahead.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, an early check for violent conduct initially puzzled those inside the ground until stadium screens indicated a possible coming together between Ballard and Arokodare, prompting referee Paul Tierney to consult the pitchside monitor.

After watching the incident, Tierney dismissed the Sunderland defender. Hair-pulling flashpoints have become increasingly common recently, with several players punished.

Home fans first roared the red card, then the mood shifted as chants of “boring, boring” and “It’s not football anymore” rang out, particularly from the South Bank.

Wolves supporters have long opposed the technology and the club has moved to try to have it scrapped. There were also chants accusing the Premier League of corruption, a refrain regularly heard from Wolves fans.
