Wolves’ relegation from the top flight was confirmed by the draw between West Ham and Crystal Palace on Monday, with five matches still to play, ending their eight-year stay.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, supporters interviewed on Wolverhampton High Street largely felt the slide had been coming and pointed to recruitment and leadership failings while weighing up next steps.
Mike Slater, 72, from Bradmore, said it had been a long time coming, citing two or three years of struggle, the sale of better players and a failure to replace them. He called it disappointing, recalled the club were down for five years last time and said it had happened 19 times before. He wants better recruitment and to see words turn into action, though he feels the plans sound promising.
Ben Dudley, from Wolverhampton, felt the writing had been on the wall since Nuno left and that the club did not replace him appropriately. He criticised repeated sales without adequate replacements, naming Cunha and Neto as big losses. He views relegation as a chance to rebuild and is already looking to next season.
Imrah, 78, from Wolverhampton, believed the owner and management had not supported the players, accusing them of prioritising profit over supporters.
While painful, many fans saw the outcome as predictable and prefer to treat it as an opportunity to reset and come back stronger.
