According to ExpressAndStar.com, day one of the trip to Portugal to cover Wolves’ pre-season began with an early alarm and a smooth journey, setting up a busy week.
A four am start led to Birmingham airport, where anticipated queues at the Jet2 bag drop and security were cleared in 45 minutes. After a quick Popeyes breakfast at six am, boarding followed for Faro.
The two hours and 50 minutes in the air passed with intermittent sleep, and the first small victory came on landing. Using an Irish passport helped avoid the long passport control queues, then it was straight to baggage collection and the shuttle for a nearby hire car.
Usually the passenger on past pre-season trips, this was a first time driving abroad on the opposite side of the road. A free upgrade from a Fiat Panda to an automatic Opel Corsa eased the adjustment, and the drive to the apartment was completed without drama.
Base for the week is a seaside town on the Algarve within driving distance of Wolves’ base. After stocking up on food, the evening was used to get ahead on work.
The week will continue the series marking Fosun’s 10 years of owning Wolves, alongside exclusive insight into Cesar Peixoto’s training sessions. There will also be exclusive interviews, daily videos and this tour diary as the players are put through their paces in preparation for life back in the Championship in the 2026/27 season.
