The Midlands outfit spent eight seasons in the top flight, but a disastrous campaign led to their relegation.

Rob Edwards was brought in to turn things around in November, but was unable to keep the club from suffering the drop.

And the Old Gold have opted to replace the 43-year-old during the off-season, bringing in Cesar Peixoto to replace him.

The Portuguese coach has previously managed clubs such as Gil Vicente, Moreirense and Pacos Ferreira, and this will be his first foray into English football.

Wolves will be hoping he has what it takes to guide the club back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

It has been reported by Football Insider that Wolves are working on a deal to bring Adama Traore back to the club.

The winger departed West Ham at the end of the campaign, just six months after his arrival, with his contract expiring this month.

But the Old Gold are set to face competition in the race for his signature, with a number of clubs believed to be interested in a deal.

Wolves have already confirmed the signing of Raul Jimenez back to Molineux after his exit from Fulham.

And Traore could be the latest former player to return to the team, although no agreement has yet been reached.

The 30-year-old first joined the Championship side in 2018, and he played 147 times in the Premier League before departing permanently in 2023.

But he could now make his return, with the club looking to build a team capable of earning a top two finish in the second division.

Traore featured just nine times for the Hammers in the league this season, coming on as a substitute on each occasion.

He failed to contribute a single goal or assist, with Nuno Espírito Santo’s side finishing 18th in the table, joining Wolves in suffering relegation.

Wolves are aiming to secure Traore as the first signing of the Peixoto era, joining Jimenez and Kieran Trippier in signing for the club this summer.

However, it has been reported that Trippier is considering ripping up his pre-contract agreement with the Old Gold following Edwards’ dismissal.

The transfer window officially opens on Monday, and will run until 1 September.

Adama Traore signing would continue bringing the band back together

It wouldn’t be the most exciting signing for Wolves, and would highlight a real lack of ideas in the recruitment team.

Traore contributed very little for West Ham, and he’s struggled in the last few years to compete at a top flight level.

Perhaps he could be dangerous in the Championship, but he would become a problem long-term if their ambition is to re-establish themselves in the Premier League.

This would be an uninspired signing from Wolves, where all the positive momentum they had built in the last few weeks has been ground to a halt with the decision to replace Edwards so suddenly.
