Wolves have ruled out bringing back The Liquidator at Molineux, citing offensive chanting and policy concerns in Fan Advisory Board meeting minutes.
The reggae instrumental last featured at Wolves more than two decades ago, when it prompted profanity-laced anti-Albion chants. The track still sounds at Albion and Chelsea, and has been used by Yeovil Town and Northampton Town.
Supporters have pushed for its return in recent years, with calls intensifying since relegation to the Championship was confirmed. Fans asked for the issue to be added to this week's board agenda.
Backers felt the song would lift the atmosphere and reconnect with the club’s past. Risks raised included conflict with ground rules on abusive language, the acceptable behaviour policy, equality and inclusion commitments, and efforts to keep Molineux welcoming for all.
Rationale included a marked shift in expectations on behaviour, safety and inclusion since it was last used. Current safety certification and operating policies require anticipating and reducing behaviour that could trigger regulatory or disciplinary action.
Governing bodies consistently expect proactive prevention rather than reaction after incidents. Further concerns included the challenge of enforcing standards if the club appears to enable likely breaches, plus reputational risks to public image, commercial relationships and the probability of complaints from some supporters.
