Wolves have turned to Cesar Peixoto to lead their push for an immediate Premier League return after dismissing Rob Edwards.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 46-year-old leaves Gil Vicente after guiding them to sixth in Portugal’s Primeira Liga to take charge at Molineux.

Chairman Nathan Shi said the decision to remove Edwards was extremely difficult and followed a thorough post-season review. He framed it as a move to give Wolves the strongest chance of promotion and to pursue a different football direction aligned with the club’s style, identity and competitiveness.

Edwards, appointed in November after Vitor Pereira’s exit, was sacked on Thursday morning after 211 days in charge. He was informed by phone once reports had already emerged on Wednesday evening that Peixoto had agreed a deal.

Edwards’ coaching staff will also depart. The future of Rui Pedro Silva, who returned as an assistant in December after previously working under Nuno Espirito Santo, remains unclear.

Some senior staff at Wolves were not aware a change was imminent before the story broke, and the decision came as a shock.
