Wolves verdict issued on potential ‘unbelievable’ Molineux return for Ruben Neves | OneFootball

Ruben Neves would be keen on returning to Wolves at some point in his career, with FLW told the club must do all they can to make it happen.

Wolves have been told to do all they can to bring Rúben Neves back to the club, with the midfielder seemingly open to returning to Molineux at some point in the future.

The Portuguese international was the first statement signing for the club under Nuno Espírito Santo, as he swapped Porto for the Championship in 2017, and he starred as Wanderers won promotion to the Premier League in style.

Neves was then key as Wolves enjoyed the best period in their modern history, which included back-to-back 7th-placed finishes, an FA Cup semi-final and a Europa League quarter-final.

As well as starring for the team and producing many memorable moments on the pitch, Neves was a leader in the dressing room, and he took the captaincy after Conor Coady left.

He also developed a close bond with the fans, and showed great loyalty by staying at Wolves for six years, which was a lot longer than many expected.

Neves ultimately left in the summer of 2023, as he joined Al Hilal in a big-money transfer, but his connection with Wolves was evident recently as he returned to Molineux as a fan for the Black Country derby win over West Brom.

And, it has been reported that Neves is open to playing for Wolves again in his career, although there are a few obvious obstacles in the way.

Firstly, the Old Gold would need to win promotion to the Premier League to have any chance of making it happen, and there would also need to be a compromise over his wages, as Wolves would understandably be unable to get near the salary he is on in Saudi Arabia.

It’s no surprise that Wolves would need to win promotion to make this happen, and, even then, it would be a long shot, from a financial and sporting perspective.

Yet, when asked by FLW about the latest development involving Neves, Wolves fan pundit Thomas Woodhall acknowledged those difficulties, but he explained why bringing the 29-year-old back would be a massive moment for the club.

“What a player. I don’t care if he comes back when he’s 55, he’d still be welcome back any day of the week!

“Provided he is happy with the amount he has earned in Saudi Arabia, and he’s happy to come in on Wolves level wages, I can see it happening. If he wants to come, absolutely.

“It would probably trump Raul Jimenez’s return, it would be the greatest return I’ve seen at Wolves, it would be unbelievable. I actually think any team in the Premier League takes Neves.”

This is a view that all Wolves fans would echo, as Neves is already a legend at Molineux, and bringing him back to the club would be the dream if the team won promotion.

Neves took a huge risk when joining Wolves in 2017, and the fans appreciated that, but over the next six years he gave so much to the club, and he clearly loved his time in the Midlands.

Even after leaving, Neves has admitted he keeps an eye on results, and, as mentioned, he was back to watch the team beat Albion last time out.

So, for Wolves, it’s a no-brainer, and it’s something that every fan will demand the club tries to do if they win promotion.

But, as we know, the finances make this deal difficult, although there will be a hope that Neves can help make it happen if he does want to return, and, if the move happens, whether it’s in 2027, 2028 or beyond, it will be a special day for Wolves fans if they can see Neves back in the shirt.
