Wolverhampton Wanderers are preparing to extend head coach Vítor Pereira’s contract until 2028, underlining their faith in the Portuguese manager despite a dismal start to the Premier League campaign, according to reports by Sky Sports.

Pereira, 57, is in the final year of his current deal, which runs to June 2026, but negotiations over a two-year extension are expected to be concluded before the weekend. The timing means Wolves could confirm his new contract ahead of Saturday’s meeting with recently promoted Leeds United.

The former Porto and Olympiacos manager took charge at Molineux last December with the club mired in the relegation zone. He swiftly stabilised their form, overseeing six successive top-flight victories, a feat the club had not achieved since 1970, and lifting them to 16th place, well clear of danger by the season’s end.

That record appears to have convinced the Wolves hierarchy that Pereira is the man to oversee another recovery, even though this campaign has begun with four consecutive defeats. The hierarchy and fans alike will be hoping that the Portuguese manager will be able to turn around their fortunes and keep his side up come the end of the season.
