Wolves and Everton meet at Molineux on Saturday, each seeking momentum as the Premier League season settles.
Vítor Pereira’s Wolves are still without a point after two defeats, but a dramatic midweek cup win has injected some optimism. Meanwhile, David Moyes’ Everton, buoyed by consecutive victories, arrive aiming to register a first away win of the season.
The hosts desperately need to get off the mark after losing their opening two league games. However, they face an Everton side growing in confidence after a historic first win at their new stadium last weekend. The Toffees also have a strong recent record in this fixture, having remained unbeaten in both matches last term.
The major talking point for Wolves is the future of striker Jørgen Strand Larsen. After scoring twice to secure a midweek cup win against West Ham, he is still expected to start despite expressing his desire to leave. Newcastle have had multiple bids rejected. Toti Gomes is available again after serving a suspension in that cup tie.
David Moyes has been handed a major fitness boost with the news that left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko is available again. His return allows James Garner to move back into his natural midfield position.
Iliman Ndiaye and Jack Grealish are in excellent form, with Ndiaye having scored in his last two games and Grealish providing two assists on his full debut last weekend.
Wolves are pointless after two Premier League games, having lost at Bournemouth after a heavy opening-day defeat to Man City. The team has struggled badly in attack, creating the fewest chances in the division so far.
However, their dramatic 3-2 comeback win over West Ham in the Carabao Cup, inspired by a brace from Jørgen Strand Larsen, has provided a much-needed morale boost.
After a disappointing opening-day loss, Everton have recorded back-to-back victories in league and cup without conceding a goal.
A historic 2-0 win over Brighton was followed by a comfortable 2-0 Carabao Cup victory against Mansfield. David Moyes’ side have looked defensively solid, a record stretching back to last season.
Wolves predicted XI: Sá; Doherty, Agbadou, Toti Gomes. Tchatchoua, Andre, Gomes, Wolfe; Munestsi; Strand Larsen, Arias.
Everton predicted XI: Pickford; O’Brien, Tarkowski, Keane, Mykolenko; Gueye, Garner, Dewsbury-Hall; Ndiaye, Barry, Grealish.
Due to the 3pm Saturday blackout, the match will not be shown live on UK television. Highlights will be available on BBC’s Match of the Day.
