Manchester United travel to face Wolverhampton Wanderers tonight, looking to overcome the disappointment of Thursday night’s draw against West Ham United. United have faced Wolverhampton Wanderers 115 times in history, with the Red Devils coming out on top 56 times.

In fact, the first match between the sides ended in a 10-1 victory for Newton Heath (United’s former name). There have been 20 draws, and the Black Country side have come out on top in 39 matches.

Here are three things to look forward to in the match.

Man United vs Wolverhampton Wanderers results

Matheus Cunha’s return

Manchester United spent £62.5 million this summer to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

This will be his first match against his former side, and it will be interesting to see what kind of reception he receives at Molineux.

Cunha was a fan-favourite and inspirational for Wolverhampton Wanderers last season, but he has struggled to capture this form for United.

The Brazilian has only scored one goal in this campaign so far and will hope to add to this tonight in very familiar surroundings.

Toothless Wolves

United have struggled to keep clean sheets this season, but tonight could be the night for the Red Devils to do so.

The BBC reports that, “winless Wolves have now gone five consecutive league games without a goal, equalling their longest barren run in the Premier League set back in 2003. Their last league goal came on 26 October when Marshall Munetsi struck in a 3-2 home defeat by Burnley.”

What’s more, “the bottom-of-the-table side entered December without any player reaching two goals in the league this season. The last top-flight team to do that were Leicester in 1977.”

United fans will be praying they are not the team Wolves finally break their duck against.

United putting together some away form

For months, Ruben Amorim’s side’s away form has been poor.

Nonetheless, they are slowly beginning to turn a corner in this regard.

The BBC reports that, “Manchester United are unbeaten in four away Premier League matches (winning two and drawing two), having gone eight without a win on the road beforehand. They last had a longer unbeaten away run between November and February in the 2021-22 campaign (seven).”

United will hope that does not end tonight and will look to secure three points that would see them rise from twelfth to sixth in the table.
