The Favourites

Germany arrive with a point to prove. Knocked out early at the 2023 World Cup, they have undergone a bit of a refresh over the past year and a younger side this time around is brimming with exciting talent, especially in the final third.

Star midfielder Lena Oberdorf may be missing but Giulia Gwinn is back having missed the World Cup, and the talents of Laura Freigang and Lea Schüller should provide a spark further forward.

The Key Clash: Germany vs Sweden

Germany will look to control the game, while Sweden are always tough to break down and can be lethal on the break. As the last game of the group stage, everything could be riding on it.

  • Lea Schüller (Germany) - One of Europe’s best strikers, Schüller thrives on service and chaos in the box. She’ll be Germany’s reference point up front, able to play with her back to goal or poach off scraps. Alex Popp's shoes are big ones to fill but Schüller has the talent and the nose for goal to do it.
  • Fridolina Rolfö (Sweden) - Versatile and technically gifted, Rolfö gives Sweden a creative outlet from the left. She can cut inside to shoot or link with Stina Blackstenius to open defences. With big-tournament experience and a knack for delivering in high-pressure moments, she’s Sweden’s X-factor going forward.
  • Pernille Harder (Denmark) - Still Denmark’s superstar and the woman who keeps Schüller on the bench at Bayern most weeks. Harder's intelligent movement and incredible work-rate mean chances come her way when things are going well and she still leads by example even when they aren't. Denmark's hopes of having enough firepower to make it through will rest on her shoulders.
  • Ewa Pajor (Poland) - Whether at Wolfsburg or Barcelona over recent seasons, Pajor has scored close enough to a goal a game for years. Her international record — 67 goals in 101 appearances — isn't bad either. A scorer of all types of goals, she will be leading the line as Poland look to spring a surprise.
