Women's Preview: Whites face Bradford in FA WNL Cup | OneFootball

Leeds United Women travel to Silsden AFC for the second week running, this time facing Bradford City Women in the FA WNL Cup after securing victory over Sunday’s hosts in the league last weekend.

The clash marks the final Group T fixture of the campaign, with progression to the knockout stages to follow.

The Whites currently top the group, victories over Halifax Women and Huddersfield Town Women all but guaranteeing a place in the knockout phase of the competition.

Last Sunday saw Leeds maintain their flawless start to the FA WNL Division One North campaign, taking all three points against Bradford and beginning to establish a gap at the top of the table.

Chloe Dixon opened the scoring in that fixture, her free-kick finding the back of the net in the first half, before Alice Hughes secured all three points 20 minutes from time when she bundled home from another set-piece.

Prior to that, Simon Wood’s side collected their first statement win of the season, defeating title rivals Stockport County Women 4-2 at the BD Community Stadium. Braces from Dixon and Amy Woodruff proved enough to see off the Lancashire outfit.

The weekend before, Leeds comfortably beat Huddersfield at home in this competition, recording a 3-0 victory against the tier-above opposition thanks to goals from Izzy Dean, Woodruff and Kath Smith.

Sunday’s hosts have endured a difficult start to the campaign, losing five of their six games in all competitions, although they did record a convincing 4-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers in the league.

A memorable meeting between the two sides came in the West Riding County Cup final last season, with Leeds retaining the trophy following a 2-1 victory.

Previewing the latest Yorkshire derby, midfielder Smith said: "It's a different opportunity in the cup. We're really excited to keep playing and keep building the momentum and we are expecting more of the same from them.

"They like to be really physical, really aggressive," Smith reflected on the previous meeting the week before. "At times we probably didn't control the game as well as we wanted to in terms of that. We need to keep to the football and play the best that we can."
