WOMEN'S PRIMAVERA, A POSITIVE START

Article image:WOMEN'S PRIMAVERA, A POSITIVE START

It’s been a positive start to a season for the reigning Champions of Italy. Our women's Primavera side, the 2023/24 Scudetto winners, have kicked off the campaign with four wins and one defeat from their opening five matches. After three consecutive victories against Sassuolo (who they beat in the Scudetto final to win the title), Fiorentina and Como, the Rossonere fell to a narrow defeat to Juventus.

It was a setback, but Coach Zago's side bounced back immediately, running out 4-1 winners over Arezzo to get back on track. The Rossonere currently sit second in the league (three points behind table-topping Juventus) and have scored the joint-most goals (16, together with Roma). Anna Longobardi, the Primavera's top scorer last season, already has four to her name in 2024/25.

Coach Matteo Zago outlined what the early-season objectives were: "The challenge we had was to integrate a fair amount of girls who had progressed through our Youth Sector with those who were already part of our Primavera team last season. On the one hand, there are new demands and a more adult environment with certain requirements. On the other hand, there's the desire to share a tradition built up over the years and help the younger ones successfully compete in a new and demanding age category."

The excellent start made by our girls can only drive them on in their daily work at the PUMA House of Football as they prepare for their upcoming fixtures. Up next is a big showdown away to Roma, the same match that awaits the First Team at the weekend. Everything that is done, is done with the future in mind: "Our objective is to give our girls the greatest chance of growth through a long-term training path that offers the possibility of them becoming professional players," concluded the Coach.
