Kylian Mbappé’s brace delivered a 3-1 win over Senegal and, with it, made him France’s all-time top scorer and their leading marksman at World Cups. At the other end, Dayot Upamecano was immense.
Le Progres’s player ratings reflected a patchy start. Mike Maignan almost put into his own net and was saved by his post from Jackson’s strike on 25 minutes. Jules Koundé then squandered a big chance on 40, before Sarr shot wide on 45+6.
After the restart, William Saliba produced a big tackle on Sarr on 52, then Olise missed a one-on-one on 53 before supplying Mbappé on 66. Dembélé stayed quiet as France gradually found control.
Dembélé made way for Barcola on 80, the substitute immediately decisive on 82 from a superb Rabiot pass. Mbappé also added a magnificent second to complete his brace.
Upamecano dominated his duels with Sarr and set the tone, while Saliba’s aerial strength and positioning were assured despite back pain.
T. Hernandez struggled with space in behind and was beaten by Mbaye for Senegal’s 90+5 reply. Tchouaméni fought in Jackson’s zone, and Maignan was unconvincing on Mbaye’s late goal.
Doué showed audacity on his World Cup debut but faded, replaced by Cherki on 87. Koundé settled after the break, nicking possession to spark a chance.
