World Cup 2026: Neymar, the final decision?

While several rumors had been swirling about a possible return of Neymar to Europe this winter to better prepare for the 2026 World Cup, the trend now appears to be shifting in the opposite direction.

According to the Spanish daily AS, the Brazilian forward is expected to continue his journey with Santos. Having returned to Brazil last winter after a brief stint at Al Hilal—just three matches played due to a serious injury—Neymar has yet to regain his full brilliance. His boyhood club is battling to avoid relegation, and his performances have fallen short of expectations.

Despite everything, Santos is reportedly keen to extend the contract of the 33-year-old, which is currently set to expire this winter. On the European side, interest in Neymar is said to be limited at present, further increasing the chances that he will remain in his homeland. For the record, Neymar has already featured in three World Cups with the Seleção, the latest in 2022. His last international appearance dates back to October 2023.
