Guinea secured a commanding 3-0 victory over Somalia this Friday, September 5, at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, in the 7th round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. This win propels the Syli National up to third place in Group G with 10 points.

Somalia hosted Guinea this afternoon in Uganda for their seventh qualifying match for the 2026 World Cup. The visitors showed no mercy, ruthlessly snatching the three precious points on offer.

Serhou Guirassy opens the scoring

Serhou Guirassy put Guinea ahead as early as the 22nd minute, finishing off a decisive pass from Abdoulaye Touré. The Dortmund striker reaffirmed his role as Syli National's attacking spearhead with a goal that fired up his team. The first half ended 1-0, with Guinea dominating proceedings but unable to extend the lead despite several clear-cut chances.

A one-sided second half

After the break, Paulo Duarte’s men ramped up the tempo. Fate took a hand when Somali defender Faisal Othman, under pressure from the opposition, inadvertently deflected the ball into his own net in the 64th minute, making it 2-0 for the Syli National. Ousmane Camara put the result beyond doubt in stoppage time, scoring in the 90+6th minute from an Alhassane Bangoura assist.

With 10 points on the board, Guinea now sits third in Group G, trailing leaders Algeria with 18 points and Mozambique with 12. Guirassy and his teammates will need to confirm this strong performance in the eighth round against the Fennecs.
