Ange-Yoan Bonny has every reason to celebrate after helping Côte d'Ivoire qualify for the FIFA World Cup Round of 32 with a 2-0 victory over Curaçao in their final Group E match.
At Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, it was a brace from Pépé that sealed the win. The Villarreal forward opened the scoring in the seventh minute, tapping home from close range after a perfect assist from Diomandé, who had won back possession near the byline following a defensive error by Curaçao. Pépé doubled the lead in the 64th minute, meeting Sangaré's through ball with a composed left-footed finish into the far corner.
The Nerazzurri striker played 67 minutes before being replaced by Diakité, playing his part in a landmark achievement for his national team, as Côte d'Ivoire reached the knockout stage of a FIFA World Cup for the first time in its history.
Overnight, Türkiye claimed a 3-2 victory over the United States. However, it was a bittersweet win for Vincenzo Montella's side, who had already been eliminated from the competition. Hakan Calhanoglu did not feature.
Meanwhile, the Netherlands secured a 3-1 win over Tunisia. Koeman's team finished top of Group F with seven points. Dumfries played the full 90 minutes.
