The dream of a World Cup title has come to an end for the Bayern duo Michael Olise and Dayot Upamecano. France lost to Spain 0-2 in the World Cup semifinals, thus failing to advance to the final.
For Michael Olise and Dayot Upamecano, the 2026 World Cup is over. The French national team lost 0–2 to Spain in the first semifinal, failing to advance to the final.
Mikel Oyarzabal gave La Furia Roja the lead in the 22nd minute on a penalty kick. Pedro Porro sealed the victory with the second goal in the 58th minute.
Spain is now in a World Cup final for the first time since its 2010 World Cup triumph. France, meanwhile, missed out on its third consecutive final appearance.

Michael Olise started once again in attacking midfield, but was unable to replicate his strong performances from previous World Cup matches this time around.
The Bayern Munich player found little space against Spain’s compact defense and struggled to make an impact on the attack. The 24-year-old’s day was over after 72 minutes when national team coach Didier Deschamps substituted him out.
Dayot Upamecano played the entire match at center back but was also unable to prevent the Équipe Tricolore’s defeat.
With France’s elimination, Olise and Upamecano are the next Bayern players to bid farewell to the World Cup.
However, the chance for a Munich-based World Cup champion remains alive. Harry Kane is the last remaining Bayern player in the tournament and will battle for a spot in the final with England against Argentina on Wednesday evening.
Should the Three Lions prevail, FC Bayern would once again have at least one player in the World Cup final in 2026 and could continue its impressive streak.
