According to Statsdufoot, it is the first World Cup final to feature the current European and South American champions.

The heavyweights duly reached the semi-finals too. For only the third time, the last four comprised the top four in the FIFA ranking, the previous instances coming in 1970 and 1990.
Spain won Euro 2024 by beating France 2-1 in the semi-finals, then overcoming England 2-1 in the final.
Argentina lifted the Copa America by defeating Colombia 1-0 after extra time in the final.
