There is plenty more World Cup action to look forward to this evening as the second group stage matchday continues in North America, and Thomas Tuchel’s England continue their campaign.

The Three Lions put four goals past Croatia in their opening match of the campaign, and can secure their place in the round of 32 with a win in Boston this evening.

Elsewhere, Cristiano Ronaldo returns to centre stage after a dismal first outing of the summer last week, with Portugal in dire need of a win.

World Cup matches today

This afternoon’s World Cup action is comprised entirely of Groups K and L, and gets underway with Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal facing Abdukodir Khusanov’s Uzbekistan, who are the only side in the group yet to pick up a point. The Selecao, though, only have one to their name after a day one draw with DR Congo.

Next on the docket, Thomas Tuchel’s Three Lions will look to continue their perfect start to the tournament as they line up opposite Carlos Quieroz’s Ghana in Boston, where victory for either side will be enough to confirm a place in the round of 32.

The second matchday in Group L continues just an hour after England wrap up in Massachusetts, with Panama facing Croatia.

And finally, there is one overnight fixture to look forward to as Group K’s two top sides, Colombia and DR Congo, go toe to toe in Guadalajara.

How to watch the World Cup today

The evening’s first prime-time fixture, Portugal vs Uzbekistan, will be broadcast by ITV1, with coverage getting underway at xxpm BST ahead of a 6pm kick-off.

BBC One will then broadcast England for the first time this tournament as they face Ghana. Build-up will go live at 8pm, with the match itself kicking off at 9pm.

The BBC will continue their programme of coverage into the small hours with Panama vs Croatia on the same channel. After a short break for the news, coverage there willl get underway at 11.50pm ahead of a midnight kick-off.

Finally, ITV 1 have the graveyard shift as Colombia and DR Congo kick off at 3am on Wednesday morning. Build-up for that tie begins at 2.30am.
