Spain take on Portugal in Texas before co-hosts USA face Belgium
World Cup 2026 action continues with the penultimate last-16 ties.
Following exits for Canada and Mexico, just one of the three co-hosts remain in the tournament, and will be the United States flying that flag in the early hours of Tuesday morning for UK watchers.
Here’s what is in store today at the World Cup...
Day 26 sees the continuation of the last-16, and Spain vs Portugal is up first in a box-office showdown. An Iberian rivalry is transported to Dallas as Cristiano Ronaldo is reunited with some familiar faces from his LaLiga days.
Portugal survived a late scare in their round of 32 win over Croatia, but will need to step it up against a Spain side that is slowly improving with each passing game.
The Red Devils staged a stunning comeback to beat Senegal in the last round, though preparations for a meeting with the co-hosts has been disrupted with Folarin Balogun’s red card being suspended by FIFA.
USA, meanwhile, have been one of the surprise packages so far, impressing in wins over Paraguay, Australia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, and are now bidding to match their best ever World Cup performance.
In the UK, Portugal vs Spain is being shown live and free-to-air on BBC One, with coverage beginning at 7.30pm BST ahead of a 8pm kick-off at the Dallas Stadium.
