L'Équipe reports that Iran left a note in their SoFi Stadium dressing room thanking Los Angeles after the 0-0 draw with Belgium. The result kept their hopes of reaching the last 32 alive.
Los Angeles staged Iran's first two Group G games. They drew 2-2 with New Zealand in their opener at SoFi Stadium, then held Belgium 0-0.
The squad has been commuting in and out of the United States due to limits on their stay, and some staff and officials have been refused entry. The team has been returning to its base camp in Tijuana, Mexico, between matches. The travel arrangements are being reviewed by US authorities, with talks ongoing over easing some restrictions.
The handwritten note described the Iranian spirit as enduring from ancient Persia to today and thanked Los Angeles for its welcome. It also declared they arrived with pride, played with honour and would leave with dignity.
The message thanked Iranian supporters for giving their heart, voice and soul, and ended with a call for peace, respect and friendship between all nations.
Head coach Amir Ghalenoei has repeatedly criticised the travel curbs, saying the team has faced unprecedented difficulties. Iran conclude their Group G campaign against Egypt in Seattle in the early hours of Saturday, 5.00 French time.
