Serie A side Napoli could need a new goalkeeper in the summer, with uncertainties growing about Alex Meret’s future. Matej Kovar has emerged as a possible target and the World Cup can become quite important for him.
Il Mattino – via AreaNapoli, report that Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna is very keen on the Czech, who came through the Manchester United youth academy. He has conducted several surveys about him and now, CEO Aurelio de Laurentiis is also interested.
He wants to see Kovar impress at the World Cup and will be closely watching his performance against South Korea on Friday. He has heard great things about him but the World Cup could be a key point in a possible move.
Kovar impressed for PSV during his loan at the Dutch club in the 2025/26 campaign. He also featured often in the Champions League, where he also featured for Bayer Leverkusen.
In a way, he has deserved a big move for a while. He has become quite a reliable shot-stopper and at Napoli, he could also fight for the top spot between the sticks. Czechia have a group which has Mexico, South America and South Africa, which can make them a candidate to progress and Kovar can use this to his advantage.
