The Three Lions knocked out co-hosts Mexico in a five goal thriller at the Azteca.

After kick-off was delayed by an hour and with England having an altitude disadvantage to overcome, fans across the country were no doubt anxious for Thomas Tuchel’s side as they faced a Mexico team with a huge home advantage.

Despite early warning shots from Raul Jimenez, Jordan Pickford stood strong to deny him.

Mexico were yet to concede a goal at the tournament until Jude Bellingham struck twice in 98 seconds during the first-half to put England in a comfortable position.

The Azteca was stunned into silence before Julian Quinones pulled one back for the hosts before the break.

The Three Lions continued to push for a third as Nico O’Reilly struck the post before Jarell Quansah slid in and was shown a straight red card in the 54th minute.

The referee awarded England a penalty minutes later when Anthony Gordon was brought down by the goalkeeper and Harry Kane fired home.

Alireza Faghani then pointed to the spot again, this time for a Mexico penalty, which allowed Jimenez to beat Pickford.

Tuchel’s side threw everything at it to see out the tie and the defence showed an excellent mentality to progress with a man disadvantage.

Their gutsy 3-2 victory now sees Marc Guehi, Nico O’Reilly and Elliot Anderson go head-to-head with Erling Haaland’s Norway in the last eight.
