Manuel Neuer will miss the DFB Cup final against VfB Stuttgart through injury – but national coach Julian Nagelsmann is not currently worried about the World Cup

Ahead of the final in Berlin, the DFB coach spoke to ARD about the Bayern captain’s situation and made it clear that there is a close exchange between the national team and the record champions

„We’ve spoken a lot this week, including with the coach, and we have a good exchange with Bayern Munich,“ explained Nagelsmann

According to the national coach, the decision not to play in the cup final was consciously made together. „It’s a joint decision as to how much risk you take before the tournament,“ emphasized the 38-year-old

„Small residual risk“ was too great for Bayern

Neuer injured his left calf in the 5-1 win against 1. FC Köln on the last Bundesliga matchday

Although the healing process is progressing positively according to media reports, there was apparently still a certain risk for the cup final

It was precisely this risk that neither FC Bayern nor the DFB wanted to take

Nagelsmann spoke specifically of a „small residual risk“ and therefore described the decision not to play Neuer as „a good decision in the interests of soccer in Germany“

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl had already given the all-clear on Friday: „The World Cup is not in danger, but he won’t be able to play tomorrow,“ the 52-year-old told BILD

According to the report, Neuer will return to training with the German national team next Wednesday

Former World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger was also positive about the return of his former team-mate: „I’ve always believed that if he’s fit and can match his performance, then he’s not only the best goalkeeper in Germany, but also one of the top three in the world,“ explained the ARD expert

Schweinsteiger also praised Nagelsmann’s decision to bring Neuer back for the World Cup: „I believe the best players should play at the World Cup,“ emphasized the 2014 World Cup winner

As a result, Manuel Neuer remains the clear number one for the German national team for the tournament in the USA, Mexico and Canada, despite missing out on the cup final.
