The 28-year-old arrived last winter from Leicester on loan with an option to buy and has met expectations, steadying the defence during a strong run. A recent meeting was held between Monaco’s hierarchy and the defender’s representatives.
Despite a three-game wobble for the team, the Belgian has generally delivered and has featured 14 times under coach Sébastien Pocognoli.
His performances in Ligue 1 and the Champions League have raised his stock, yet he has settled in Monaco with his family and would not oppose extending his stay.
Leicester, currently in the Championship, have endured a difficult campaign and have just been relegated to the third tier for next season.
It remains to be seen whether Monaco can reach an agreement to trigger the option to buy, with finances likely to weigh for a club constrained in this area.
