Manchester United are reportedly looking to pounce on the opportunity to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
The 32-year-old has been in England since 2010 when he joined Arsenal’s youth ranks. After 10 years in North London, he failed to make his breakthrough with the Gunners, so he joined the Villains in the summer of 2020.
Afterwards, the Argentinian emerged as one of the finest custodians in the Premier League. He rose to stardom during the 2022 World Cup when his heroics led his nation towards a third triumph. His astonishing extra-time save against Randal Kolo Muani remains one of the main highlights of an epic finale.
Therefore, Leo Messi proclaimed Martinez as ‘the best goalkeeper in the world during last summer’s triumphant Copa America title defence.

Despite finding success at Villa Park, the shot-stopper’s venture in Birmingham has apparently reached its end credits. On Friday evening, he was reduced to tears as he appeared to be waving the club supporters on what may have been his final home fixture for the club.
Afterwards, reports claimed Martinez is set to leave Villa and potentially join one of his rich suitors in the Saudi Pro League.
Nevertheless, Argentinian journalist Fernando Cuyz reveals that the goalkeeper has offers from Man United and Barcelona.
The Red Devils are reportedly searching the market for a new custodian after enduring Andre Onana’s blunders for two straight campaigns.
The club has been linked with several profiles already, and it would be interesting to see if Martinez could emerge as a concrete candidate for the role.
Nevertheless, Martinez is tied to Aston Villa with a contract until June 2029, so United would have to satisfy the demands of their EPL counterparts.
It remains to be seen if Marcus Rashford’s card would have a role to play in the equation. The 27-year-old is currently on loan at Villa with an option to buy for £40 million.
