Wrexham boss Parkinson provides update on midfielder’s future after confirming huge summer signing | OneFootball

Wrexham have completed a deal to sign Preston North End captain Ben Whiteman, their second acquisition of the summer.

The midfielder joins with a wealth of Championship experience, having made 200 appearances in the division. He is the second new arrival at the Racecourse Ground this summer, following Danny Imray who made the switch from Crystal Palace.

“It’s an amazing feeling to be here, I’m thrilled to sign for Wrexham,” said Whiteman. “I think any Championship player at this moment in time wants to join this football club.

“Wrexham is a club that wants to get to the Premier League and so do I. So once the interest was there, it was really hard to ignore.”

Despite his delight with the deal, Whiteman has left a sour taste behind at Preston. The 30-year-old did his part to force a move away, prompting Preston boss Paul Heckingbottom to accuse Whiteman of “crossing a line” with his behaviour.

Wrexham will now turn their attention to other deals, as they look to continue to strengthen their squad. In recent days they have been amongst those linked with Bournemouth striker Daniel Jebbison.

After narrowly missing out on the play-offs last term, the Red Dragons will hope to go one better this campaign. Following three consecutive promotions from the National League to the Championship, Wrexham are still chasing their expressed ambition of reaching the Premier League.

As well as incomings, however, midfielder George Dobson has been linked with a number of clubs.

“There have been rumours about Dobbo,” admitted boss Phil Parkinson. “But we haven’t had any offer for him at all.

“Sometimes somebody says something on Twitter and it escalates into something much bigger than it actually is. As things stand, there’s been no official offer for Dobbo.”
