Wrexham have kicked off their winter business by signing Bristol City defender Zak Vyner for a reported £1.5m. The club said the 28-year-old has agreed a deal to the end of 2028-29 with an option of a further year.

Vyner was left out of City's squad for Friday's 5-0 loss to Derby County. He brings more than 250 Championship appearances. Wrexham sit sixth after Saturday's 1-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday.

The centre-back said he is delighted to join, praised the club's ambition and three straight promotions, and wants to play his part.

Attention now turns to late business. Right wing-back cover has been explored, with Issa Kabore, on loan from Manchester City, impressive when fit but sidelined after a hamstring injury on Burkina Faso duty in November. Hammarby IF's Hampus Skoglund and Sheffield Wednesday's Yan Valery have been linked.

Fan favourite Elliot Lee has yet to feature in the league this season. Phil Parkinson has told the 31-year-old a loan is an option for minutes, and although one move fell through, the club remain hopeful of a solution before the 7pm deadline.

Wrexham are pursuing attacking depth. A club-record £19m move for Angers striker Sidiki Cherif was explored but he chose Fenerbahce. Wrexham were said to have bid for Barnsley's Davis Keillor-Dunn, while Ipswich Town's Sammie Szmodics and Sheffield Wednesday's Bailey Cadamarteri are of interest. Striker Ryan Hardie has one goal in 10 and is wanted on loan by Bolton Wanderers, though any exit depends on a replacement arriving.
