Phil Parkinson's side could be still be set to make a signing despite the transfer window being closed
Wrexham are reportedly closing in on the signing of Josh Adam following his departure from Manchester City in the summer.
That's according to Daily Mail journalist Jack Gaughan, who says that a deal for the midfielder could be completed before the end of this week.
Adam is currently a free agent, having been released by the Premier League champions following the expiration of his contract earlier this summer.
However, he could soon be set to secure himself a new club. Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson recently revealed that his side had taken Adam on trial with a view to a move.
Now it seems as though that deal will be done, with the 20-year-old looking set to complete a move to the League One side imminently.
Adam has been without a club following his departure from Manchester City earlier this summer.
But following that stint on trial with Wrexham, it seems the young midfielder has done enough to earn himself a permanent move to the club.
As per this latest update, Adam is now set to sign a two-year contract with Parkinson's side, which would secure his future at the Racecourse Ground until the end of the 2025/26 season.
It is thought that a deal is close to being announced, and could be completed this week. Given the midfielder is a free agent, he can be signed even though the transfer window is now closed.
Wrexham signed a total of eight players in the summer market, having won a second straight promotion, this time from League Two, last season.
Arthur Okonkwo, Lewis Brunt, George Dobson, Callum Burton, Sebastian Revan, Dan Scarr, Ollie Rathbone and Modou Faal all completed permanent moves to the club.
On the pitch, it has been an excellent start to life in League One for the Red Dragons, following their 3-0 win over Shrewsbury Town on Saturday afternoon.
That means Parkinson's side have taken 13 points from five league games so far, putting them top of the League One table, albeit having played a game more than most of the rest of the league.
Wrexham are next in action in the league next Monday, when they travel to St Andrew's to face Birmingham City, when Adam could make his debut for the club.
The attacking midfielder never made a senior appearance for Manchester City, though he did feature regularly at youth level, enjoying league success with both their Under 18s and Under 21s.
It does feel as though the addition of Adam would be a good one for Wrexham to make now that the transfer window is closed.
The free agent market is now the only opportunity they have to add to their squad, and Adam is a promising player to do that with.
His returns at youth level are certainly encouraging, as is the fact he was doing that for a club with the pedigree and quality in their ranks that Manchester City have.
It will also add another option for them in an attacking midfield area where they do seem to be lacking some depth at this moment in time.
Given he is available on a free transfer, there is also very little financial risk attached to this deal for the League One club.
Wrexham to get done in the next few days.
