Wrexham are looking to finish their summer with a bang in the market.
Wrexham are eyeing up a hat-trick of signings to end their summer of spending, including a £7.5m bid made for Southampton star Will Smallbone.
The Red Dragons have struggled in their opening three Championship fixtures, suffering defeats at the hands of Southampton and West Brom, before squandering a two-goal lead to draw with Sheffield Wednesday.
After already spending heavily this transfer window, the Welsh outfit are aiming to boost their squad even further with three more deals.
Wrexham haven’t been shy to display their ambitious attitude in the transfer market once more, capturing the likes of Nathan Broadhead and Lewis O’Brien respectively for sizeable fees.
With that spending, success is therefore expected, but that hasn’t been the case in the 2025/26 Championship campaign’s opening stanza, with no wins from their opening three league games.
This has prompted the Welsh outfit into taking drastic action and spending even further to round out the window.
As per journalist Alan Nixon via Patreon on Sunday, Wrexham have tabled bids for Southampton’s Will Smallbone, Rennes midfielder Jordan James and West Ham United’s Andy Irving respectively.
Phil Parkinson and Co. have offered £7.5m for Smallbone and hope to hear an answer from Southampton regarding the deal in the near future.
Football League World exclusively revealed that the Saints were looking for £8 million to part ways with the midfielder but may feel inclined to cash in following Wrexham’s bid.
The Red Dragons are reportedly prepared to outbid the likes of Parma and Ipswich Town to secure James’ signature. It was previously reported by L’Equipe that they had submitted a €5 million (£4.3 million) offer for the Welshman.
Wrexham are also confident that they can complete this hat-trick of signings with a swoop for Irving, who is available for the right price according to Nixon but may be seen as the third-choice option behind the other two aforementioned players.
Scottish giants Rangers have also been credited with an interest in Irving, but Wrexham are believed to be currently ahead in that race.
After starting the season in unimpressive fashion, it is understandable why Wrexham are throwing everything at the transfer window whilst they still can.
Once it slams shut they will have to stick with what they’ve got, and after their first three matches, that doesn’t look to be enough to compete at the higher echelons of the Championship.
However, bringing in these three players will cost over £10 million, which would take their already high summer spending into a stratospheric atmosphere.
It is a massive amount of money to hand Parkinson, who may not be the man to take Wrexham forward in the long term given this season's early struggles, despite the obviously superb job he's done at the Racecourse Ground so far.
Time will tell how this trio of transfers turns out should any of them, if not all, make the move to Wrexham before the deadline, but they could be make or break for the Welsh outfit’s season.
