Chelsea have announced that Scottish midfielder Erin Cuthbert has penned a new long-term deal with the club. The contract extenders her stay with the Blues until 2027.

The 26-year-old midfielder signed for Chelsea as a teenager in 2016, which saw Cuthbert leave Glasgow City and Scotland. During her time in England, Cuthbert has become Chelsea’s second-longest current serving player, behind captain Millie Bright. Earlier this season, she surpassed 250 appearances for the Blues.

It has been a trophy-laden period in the capital, as Cuthbert has won six Women’s Super League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups, the WSL Spring Series and the Community Shield. Alongside this, the Scot also featured in the Women’s Champions League final against Barcelona in 2021.

Individually, Cuthbert has twice been named in the PFA WSL Team of the Year and internationally, she has been named Scotland Women’s Player of the Year several times.

On the international stage, Cuthbert has earned 74 caps and scored 23 times for Scotland since making her debut as a teenager in June 2017. She featured at both of her country’s appearances at a major tournament — the 2017 European Championships and the 2019 World Cup, where the midfielder scored against Argentina.

‘I have fallen in love with a club and they have fallen in love with me’

Speaking on her future, Cuthbert said: “It’s been eight years, but the feeling of playing for this club never goes away. It’s a good time to reflect on how far I’ve come over the last eight years. If you had said to the girl who joined Chelsea eight years ago that she would still be here, I wouldn’t have believed you. I have fallen in love with a club and they have fallen in love with me. That’s special.”

Head of women’s football, Paul Green, added: “Erin is one of the leaders in the team and now in her prime. She has been a key player in our success over the last eight years and recently surpassed 250 appearances for the club, which is testament to her reliability and consistency. We have seen her develop into one of the best central midfielders in the world and look forward to seeing her continue to progress in the upcoming years.”
