WSL: Lauren Hemp on song as Man City bag last-minute win against Liverpool | OneFootball

A tense six-goal thriller against Gareth Taylor’s Liverpool side saw Manchester City maintain their unbeaten run.

Goals from Lauren Hemp, Bunny Shaw, Alice Bergström, Vivien Endemann alongside an own goal from Grace Fisk treated fans to an action packed evening at the Joie Stadium.

Man City keep WSL winning run alive

Just 13 minutes into the tie, Lauren Hemp opened the scoring for the hosts. The No.11 fired the ball beyond former teammate Khiara Keating after a well placed ball from new signing Carlotta Wamser fell to the City winger. Just six minutes later and the visitors were back on level terms. A defensive error from the hosts allowed Alice Bergström to find the back of the City net.

Liverpool pulled ahead just nine minutes later as Ayaka Yamashita was unable to deny a close range shot from Vivien Endemann. A goalkeeping error from Keating allowed Bunny Shaw to tap home the ball after the Liverpool keeper spilled a deflected shot from Hemp.

After a relatively quiet second half, Manchester City snatched two late goals to put the game to bed. An own goal from Grace Fisk pulled the hosts ahead as Shaw failed to meet a cross from Grace Clinton. The Reds captain nudged the ball beyond her keeper in the 90th minute to give the hosts a slender lead.

Having got the scoring underway, it was Lauren Hemp who wrapped the action up. A run from beyond the halfway line left the No.11 one on one with Keating, allowing her to fire the ball home to put the game comfortably out of reach.
